steering arm

after reassembling the steering box, how do I know what position to install the steering arm?

Well, you align the two marks you made on the shaft and the arm
you made before you took everything apart.

I see a Mark on the shaft.

Making two marks would have been a good idea! Unfortunately I didnt!

Turn all the way to one side, count the number of revolutions until you max out on the other, half that and go to it. Then assemble at the "going straight" angle. At this point you may have to work backwards along the assembly a little bit to find that "going straight" point.

For the M38 read the instructions on page 277 of TM 9-8012 M38 Ops & Maint. Manual.

For the M38A1 read the instructions on page 274 of TM 9-8014 M38A1 Ops & Maint. Manual.
