1954 M170: Where can I find the Serial# on the frame?

Post by W8kbrder »

Hi all,

I've tried searching through the archives but can't seem to locate this info. I'm trying to figure out how to find the serial/vin number on the frame or any other place besides the dash plates? Unfortunately when I purchased my M170, there were no Dash Plates.

Can anyone tell me where to look to find the serial number? I imagine its buried under years of paint/crud.

Thanks!

Willys/Kaiser put the jeep serial in two places. The dash plate and the patent plate (behind the passenger seat). That's the only two choices. The chassis serials were primarily a WWII thing. Unfortunately Willys/Kaiser did not have the wisdom to rivet those tags on instead of using 4 sheet metal screws!
