Slave Cable Receptacle question

Post by DanS »

I've looked here, can't find it. Does anyone know the lengths of the cables attached to the slave cable receptacle for an M38? Thanks.

Dan, check out my photo album under the M38 Electrical sub-album.

Those lengths are close but I suggest you go with 2 or 3 inches extra until you have assembled the cables to the receptacle, mounted the receptacle and routed & clamped the cables. Since these cables can be very stiff you need to be careful how you clock the terminals on the ends of the cables so you don't have to fight with them to align the terminal ends with the stud on the starter switch and the front support bracket bolt on the starter. I get the cables trimmed to the correct length at this point then strip back the shield/cover on the cable for the terminal ends then I slide the terminal end on the wire and slip it on it's stud or bolt and then I make a felt tip mark indexing the terminal to the end of the wire. Then you can pull the wire up where you can get the crimper on it and finish crimping and heat shrinking the terminal.

Since these two pin slave receptacles are the early style it doesn't hurt to keep a late 1 pin style adapter in the jeep.

This is the manual that shows how to assemble and dis-assemble those large plugs & receptacles. Download the apllicable parts from our downloads page: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... it&lid=161

Does anyone know of a source for the female ends of the slave cable receptacle. They are soldered onto the cable, then pushed into the receptacle. Running into a dead end here, can't locate them. Thanks.
