M38 Wheel Nut Torque Spec?

Post by coolpool »

I looked in the tech manual and it doesn't specifically say what the wheel nut torque spec is. Or did I miss it? I'm thinking they should be anywhere between 80-100 fl/lbs; am I close?

Modern vehicles are around 100 foot pounds. Don't see any reason for these to be any different

You should be careful using modern figures. Many of those are not the tapered steel wheel nut figure and many are square shouldered nuts used with cast wheel figures.

Since no torque figure is found in the m38 manual I would use the figure in the CJ2A/3A service manual SM1002. 60-75 Ft Lbs.

Here's the torque chart page from that manual:

Several of the important chapters can also be found in the same place in my photo album:

Thanks Wes! When I loosened them off they seemed easy to move. Now it makes sense.
