I've been looking over the various painting and lettering guides on line.
It appears there was a dividing line (maybe more like a muddy field)
where the tire pressure stencils went from inside the fender above the tire on the wheelhouse, to on the exterior of the fender. That line or field, looks to be post-WWII, and sometime during the M38 production.
I have MC11481, delivered in 1950. There is very little original paint left, if one can call it that, but one thing I do have is TP35 stencilled in white over OD green inside the rear fenderwell on the wheelhouse. There is OD on the outside of the rear fenderwells, but no trace of any white pant.
There is no trace of original paint on the outside of the front fenders, and I will carefully try and see what's under Bubba's palate on the inside. Judging from what he managed to do to the hood I am not confident of any measure of success.
In the meantime, I'll be putting the TP35 back on inside the fenders on the wheelhouses.
Does anyone else have any original data to throw in the mix?
I see where the batch of 236XXXX jeeps ready for delivery in the photo pages do not have any tire pressure stencilling, but I am guessing that was a field job.
Take care,

Mine had the original TP markings on the inside of the fender as well.

The jeeps left Willys with no tire pressures painted on them. They were all done in the field as were unit numbers and they were about as uniform as a calico cat.
