I am in the process of rebuilding my M38A1 D-18 transfer case and was looking for some additional eyes on some wear on the intermediate and sliding gears. The pictures show the teeth that are in the worst condition. The rest of the teeth on both gears show little wear. All the guides say check for chips, pitting, etc. and I am just not sure what is to much.
Intermediate gear is iffy. Try cleaning up the teeth. If you can get by without taking too much off it will still work. The sliding gear will run noisy and beat up a new set of mated teeth pretty quick so I'd replace it.
Both look very iffy to me. If you are going to all the trouble of a tear down and rebuild, may as well do it right the first time so you are satisfied with the result.

Thank you Wes and Dan for the replies. I didn't like the way they looked but wanted more guidance then what is in the books. As always you get it here. Going to check out a parts D18 I have and if not new gears will be on the way.
