weld nuts

Post by 4x4M38 »

Can someone point me to a good photo of the weld nuts before installation?

Like the ones that are welded to the inside of the tub to hold the fuel nozzle guard or the cowl battery box on the firewall?

The reason I ask is all the ones I'm looking at look to have the corners knocked off and they are welded to the tub or firewall on all four of those corners.

Does that make sense or am I looking at it wrong?

Tks,
Brian

Weld nuts come in many shapes and forms. They are square, hex or round and caged and un-caged.

You'll need to review the hundreds of members photos showing the detail of the area you are interested in to ascertain the style of weld nut used. My M38 body album should have most of your answers. IE:

No I'm looking right at the nuts, Wes. I don't understand what I'm looking at.

What I want to know (because I have to replace a missing one) is do the nuts on the firewall have the corners knocked off as bought, or is that something that is happening when they are welded on? See your firewall photos below.

They are not square corners.

The corners are molten to weld the nut to the steel panel thus the corners melt and look like they do on your steel panel.

Googling is so impersonal. It's like watching a family sitting in
a restaurant and they are all on their own individual cell
phones.

So, because you dislike google, you ask questions whose answers are easily found on a quick google expecting other members to do the googling for you

No Sir.
It's kind of like Wiki.

Not everything you read there is fact.

And I much prefer to have discussions with folks that
have similar interests, and those that I hold in high esteem.

I do spend inordinate amounts of time surfing the net looking
for items and information, trust me. And if in doubt, ask my
long-suffering spouse, for whom a common phrase is,"
Are you coming to bed?"

Life and this board can be like a Wiki. Everything you hear and read can be wrong! Wisdom isn't super-intelligence. It is the ability to weed through the BS and find the truth. You can't google wisdom but with wisdom you can sort out what you find on google, the wiki, this board and the news!
