Rust advice plz

Post by Saberr »

Well, i'm down to my last rust fixes on my body, these are kind of interesting though. It ate it's way throught the bottom from top kicker to floor on the side. THis is all behind the support, on BOTH sides of the jeep. Now i see that it most likely goes all the way up the side support. Its just lighter up higher. Should i just cut all the metal off where the support meets metal to the top, and weld in new piece. Or is there a way to just replace the really bad, and to treat the rest. Just not sure if there is anything i could put in between the support and tub, to neutralize the rust there. Some advice would be nice. Don't think the support needs replaceing, just not purdy (will be using neutralizer on it). As a side note all the orange you see on the inside pics, is just rust dust. Had tub on its side and all the dust settled down, just flipped again.

I would either remove the pillar support and sandblast, prime & paint it or replace it with a new pillar support available at many vendors.

Moses Ludel shows in one of his books where a tech cut away
the bottom, back and sides of the support where rotted, giving
access to the rusted side panel. He then replaced the bad side area,
and made a new bottom for the support. After repairing the floor,
he welded the new portion back in and spot welded to the floor
and side sheet.

A much more involved job than replacing the support as Wes
mentioned, but does show another way to repair that area.

If you don't want to go all the way to the top:

These are $75 each.
