Hi everyone, I am a newbie to this excellent site it's my first posting and wondered if anyone could help.
I am the owner of a Nekaf that was imported to the UK in 1982 and registered with a 1982 age related plate, however the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency has the manufacture age as 1961. The vehicle has been restored prior to me getting it and the only original number that I can find is the chassis / frame number which is MD15434. I have visited the Dutch Nekaf site which would put the serial number as being 1957 or 1958. I would be grateful if anyone could assist me in my quest to attempt to put a genuine age to my Nekaf then hopefully I can get the correct date related document with the U.K. Vehicle Licensing Agency.
If anyone else has had similar experiences with the U.K licensing Agency how did you manage to convince them on the age of your vehicle, for example what documents did they want and how did you source them. Many thanks ANDYM

Most agencies are willing to work with owners of classic/antique vehicles to determine proper serials and dates of manufacture. Especially where the original manufacture is long since defunct. Some of the best information available is on type club web sites. Your serial MD 15434 which should be 57144 15434 would have been an APR/MAY/ JUN 58 Nekaf.

Do you know a good and reliable jeep parts supplier in the UK??
I am a new owner of a M38A1 1961 once done service in Saudi. When I am buying spare parts from US, I have to pay, first and of course the list price for the parts, second I have to pay the air freight charges. When the stuff arrives to Sweden I have to pay customs fee for the complete value which means both the list price AND the customs fee. And on top of that I have to pay 25% VAT on total sum. A fairly cheap piece can get very costly after all the charges if it is a heavy piece of material, so you can perhaps see my monetary dilemma. As UK is within the EU most charges are already payed for.

Jan, so far I have not had to buy anything for my Jeep. However I have numerous receipts from the previous owner who bought all his parts from JEEPARTS U.K. They have quite a comprehensive parts list and decent website. http://www.jeeparts.co.uk/Jeeparts/home.php

Just for those who are interested in chassis numbers and years, here are the nearest chassis numbers with year and military vehicle registration number (license plate numbers) that I have found.
M38A1's assembled by NEKAF in Rotterdam, the Netherlands:
MD15427 1958 KX-62-63
MD15434 1958 KX-**-**
MD15435 1958 KX-62-17
so, MD15434 is from 1958
