Proper Mounting of Mt-299 with VRC-10

Post by PaulB »

So I'm about ready to mount my Mt-299 with VRC-10 (RT68 and PT112) in my M38. I've been looking for detailed photos of mounted units and they are limited. Before I started drilling holes in the fender, I just wanted to make sure everything looks correct. The photos below are the mount with radio just placed in the approximate location. I will paint the blocks.

One problem I have is the holes in the mount do not line up straight with the holes in the wood blocks. So the wood blocks don't line up with the edge of the mount.

I also want to make sure the radio is supposed to be a small distance away from the side of the jeep.

Everything look alright and correct? Or do I need to change and readjust something? Thanks...

Everything looks ok as you have it, I wouldn't put the radio right against the side of the tub - you'll need a little clearance for the top bows, if you have a top. I painted the wood blocks on my M38 OD. The VRC-10 is bolted driectly to the tub on some metal brackets.

id put the top bows in place to make sure you can get the wing nut in and out , and give your self some clearance at the top of the front seat frame for which ever side you mount it on, mine was mounted to passenger side so I could reach it

Hi guys,

I am mounting a VCR 10 on my m38a1 too. I have a consult:
Somebody knows if I can get an installation kit with: brackets, antenna cable, screw, nuts. If is yes. Where can I found it?

Thanks in advance, and I am learning to much from you.
Thanks & Regards

Hello Pacho,

I do not know of any kits for sale. Do you have a copy of the manual TM 11-286 VRC-8-10 and the drawing from my album SC-D-28605?
