Ok, Im tired of looking, whats your source for your steering box lube? All I can find is stuff that is GL5. I want to keep the bushings safe. Can I just use my jug of GL1-90 age be safe with it not being 140W? Or can we get away with a non-detergent SAE 60 motor oil that almost has the velocity of a 140 gear oil?
I pulled my sector shaft recently to verify it wasn't a junk repro from when I rebuilt it a few years ago. I noticed a bit of shimmer in the oil and think it may of been from the oil but then again it could if been from the new bushing breaking in. I can't recall what I used and don't have a bottle of what I may have used. Now I need to replace the lube and having no luck finding anything but GL-5 140W oil.

Bretto, I packed mine with chassis grease but not full. A no no they say. It will eventually leak the 90 wt. out anyway. After I was ready to drive, I put some gL 1 in it and drove. It mixed up quite well into a nice slithery goo. It stays in. i know this because when I checked for the bad sector, I saw it first hand!

You can also look at early Ford Differential oil. It is 600 wt and doesn't leak bad if the box is in good shape. Old Model A vendors carry it.
