Battery Box question

Post by layne »

This is the first of what I am sure will be many questions. This is my first military vehicle and I just got the M-38 home yesterday. It has been converted to 12V with an alternator. The battery is currently located in the front passenger side of the engine compartment, but is not attached in any way. It is just sitting on a flat space of what I think is the fender. I know this cannot be correct, but what is correct. Is this where one of the batteries is located for a normal 24 V system? Should there be a battery box here, as well as in the cowl? I would think so, but have not seen photos of the engine compartment for the M-38. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Layne

Box

Yes, there should be a box there. There is a picture of it on my website at www.midwestmil.com under the M38 parts section.
One piece of advise to you as a new owner. Before you do anything else, buy the TM9-8012 and Ord 9 SNL G740 parts manuals. These will answer most of your questions, and tell you what you should, or should not have.
Regards,
John
