Carter YS Carb.

Post by Trip »

My M38 restoration project needs a carb as I never had one. I was at a swap meet and found what I thought at the time was a replacement. After doing research, (Photos by Wes) it appears to be a correct Carter YS for an M38-A1. It also appears to be an exact M38 replacement except for the throttle body.

Question, can the M38-A1 throttle body be switched for an M38 throttle body upon a rebuild of the carb??

If not what is the value of the M38-A1 carb? It is dirty but in good shape, ready for rebuilding.

Hello Charles,

I moved your technical question here. The project page is for a continuous and on going project progress reporting.

No the bowl and air horn of the YS637S and YS950S are not compatible with the other carbs throttle body. If you look carefully at my photos the bore diameters are a mismatch as our transfer ports in each.

Core values on the YS950S vary from $50 to $100.
