What the flap?

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I took off my spare tire to blast and paint the rim........and there's no flap!

Thinking that was a "bubba" I checked out the ORD.......no tire flaps!!
So I just got to ask.......why didn't these guys come with flaps to protect the tubes? Do you guys run flaps?

thanks,
bob

Flaps were called for in the M-38, but the M-38A1 does NOT call for them...

Flaps were needed primarily for the WWII Combat wheels to protect the tubes when bolting the wheels together. The later M-38 and M-38A1 did not have combat wheels so no flaps required to protect the tubs...

This is my understanding, I may be wrong...

Most drop center rims did not use flaps. Even the early 1950 M38 ORD 9 does not list flaps.
