Distributor wiring harness connection

Post by JackQT »

1954 M38A1

Started running. . .poorly. . .or not running at all. Cleaned points. Noticed the wire from the ignition switch to the distributor was in really bad shape. Not surprising.

Spliced in a new length of wire, but in doing so I noticed the end of the wire that connects to the distributor was just plugged in and held via friction fit. It looks like it *should* be snugged down via the hollow threaded nut. . .but I seem to be missing something.

In this image, it is called the "primary cable disconnect point". . .but I've just got a wire with a think rubber end that slides up into the distributor. Can somebody tell me what part/nut I am missing?

You are missing the wire #12 distributor terminal parts. The photo you posted is the very early style connector used on the first M38's.

You need the wire #12 silver connector assembly.

Kaiser Willys Parts sells the complete lead assembly and I am pretty sure john at Midwest Military carries the lead assembly as well.
