Canvas Top - Securing

Post by Bob_C »

Quick question. Got my canvas top installed, but curious as to how the top is secured to the back panel on the M38A1. There seems to be 1 extra strap to either side. I'm also bad with knots / straps / etc. Anyone have an illustration or explination how these get secured? I think I have an idea, but it isnt *that* taught. How taught is it supposed to be?

Another question, are the rods only for the sides?

Thanks!

I think the rod work is well depicted by the weebee guys here:

Wes, I'll have to take a look but I think the M38 has four side straps. If so I think this guy may have a side panel for a M38 and trying to put it on an A1. This may be where he is ending up with an extra strap.

Thanks Wes,

Reason I asked was the my repro bows didnt have a hole drilled for the horizontal rod. I guess I will have to do that, drats. Ive seen that weebee image before, but I couldnt see how it exactly secured, or if the rod was simply held temporarily in place to be recieved by some part of the side curtins (which I dont have).

And I think Im gonna go shoot something...if I remember correctly, I welded up those holes for the footman loops on the corner. Thought they were part of the 10 zillion holes the previous owner drilled into the body. Gah. bloody hoot.

The two rods are enclosed in the flaps of the top and the side curtain.

The top rod shown here would actually be inside the top 's side flap.

Do you know what diameter hole / how far up it needs to be up the bows?

No I don't have a bow set here. The A1 and M38 bows are the same so someone must have a set handy.

Where do the rods get stored when the top is off?

For that matter, where do the side curtains and doors get stored when the top is off?

They're tucked inside the folded canvas and the folded canvas is tied down on top of the rear wheel houses.

The hole in my NOS bow is 26" up from the bottom edge of the front bow.
