M38 gas Lines

I am in need of help installing a M38 gas tank. I would like to get pictures of the routing the gas lines along the frame. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Banjomike Banjomikehashem@aol.com[/b]

Hi Mike,
Pretty easy.

Go to Wes’ photo pages and look through them.

And, the M38 fuel line does not go along the frame, unlike the CJ’s.
The M38 and M38A1 fuel pickup exits the tank through an intank
filter, out the top, across the tank, along the body just under the door,
and out the firewall.

On the two military jeeps above the only things that
run along the frame are the brake lines and wiring harness.

And the speedo cable for a short length.

Brian,

The line you describe is the 3/16" vent line that goes to the air cleaner to vent the tank.

The fuel line comes off the top of the tank to the back of the tank, drops down to a hole in the body halfway down the vertical wall, thru the wall then over to the frame, lower driver's side. Then along the frame to just behind the fender where the fuel shutoff is located, up the fender to the level of the frame, then thru the rubber fuel hose into the fuel pump. From the fuel pump up to the carburetor.

Two lines of thought here, one is close to the manifold (Factory) the other is to pull it out a bit to give the fuel line some cooling room.

I’m an idiot. You are right.

I guess I was thinking about the fuel line exiting the top of the tank,
but too long in the shop today cleaning and reassembling a lathe and inhaling
mineral spirits.....

Ok that’s no excuse!

Just completely forgot it goes to the rear then down under and across to the frame.

There is a PM that addresses that fuel line mod you describe, so it’s legal for a
motor pool restoration and good advice for a daily driver.
