I have a CJ 5 1956 with an L-134. It does not have an oil filter on it. My question is were any built without this? If not where do I tap into the engine to install one?
Thanks,
Bob

Your CJ5 should have come with an F-134 engine. The L-134 is the 60 HP flat head. The F-134 is the 72 HP dual type with Exhaust valves still in the block like a flathead and the intakes are in the head like and overhead valve engine.
The oil filter was an option but was not left off very often. You can buy the entire setup used or new from many of the jeep parts dealers and on Ebay. There were Fram, AC and Puralator but any will work.
The bracket bolts to the right front corner of the head. The two oil lines go to the timing cover upper right side and the oil galler behind the fuel pump.

Thanks Wes. This is excellent information. The engine I have is a flathead and I think it is stock. I also have seen a 1955 CJ5 with the F-134 (ohv) in it so I can only guess they mixed and matched at will in those days. I will begin trying to fabricate / purchase a filtering system for this little guy.
Thanks again and I welcome any input from others.

Willys didn't mix and match. The CJ5 did not come with a flathead. Someone needed an engine bad and put what they could find in there.
Here is what your CJ5 really is suppose to look like under the hood:
