Distributor problem

Post by 59Willy »

I have a 59 Willy CJ5 that has a issue starting. I have a electronic distributor and has always worked fine. One day it decided not to start and so I popped the hood and pulled the center plug on distributor. I pulled the plug just enough where the electrode is touching the center hole. It fired right up. I then plugged it firmly back into place. I'm now having to do this every time I start it. What do you think could be the issue? Thx

If I assume when you say electronic you are actually referring to a Pertronics mechanical points replacement Hall Effect kit trigger set and not a full blown electronic ignition system found on cars newer then 1980.

Points to a possible corroded coil lead socket, a gap issue at the rotor/cap or the plugs, or an intermittent open in the coil lead itself. Is your coil lead solid wire core or carbon core?
