Correct is in the eye of the beholder. Which part number pump. The 0riginal CU Type AC pump was AC Part # 1539585, ORD # 7375380. So if you want a factory original jeep look for the last 4 of that number "9585" on the flange of the pump. After serial MC74419 (where the fording sys changed) pump AC# 1539917 ORD # 8330132 was used. The service replacement pump for the early system was AC # 5592147, ORD # 8329527 and the service replacement pump for the later system was AC # 5592659, ORD # Unknown. Then as the M38A1 started production the Army decided in the mid 50's to only stock the later A1 pumps. They can be easily spotted because they have the built in handle to manually prime the carb bowl.
