Keep in mind that those distributors will have Prestolite or a later manufacturer's name on them and will be the later M38A1 distributor from AMC stock in the 60's. Not a big deal mechanically since the differences in advance curve are very minor but if you have a very early M38 she'll look out of place and if you have the firewall mounted radio noise filter she won't match the power cable.

IAU-4004-UT Seperate filter on firewall Thru MC20599

IAU-4006-UT Integral filter thru MC53262

IAU-4006-AUT Same as IAU-4006-UT except increased waterproofing. After MC53262 thru end of M38 production and thru M38A1 production to about 1960. Also used as service spares on all earlier M38's.

Wes,

I recently bought one of the distributors from Army Jeep Parts and talked to George.

Most of the parts were packaged 2/52 and the tag on the distributor had a 2/52 code on the data plate.

Did not see any prestolite nomenclature anywhere, but I cannot say for every distributor he sells.

It was very nice.

Do you recall Ben's new distributor last year? Note the AMC & 2 66 date.

Wes,

Yes, I remember Ben's quandry.

You are correct to remind everyone that you need to be specific when ordering parts from the vendors.

To the vendors anything made for the military under contract is NOS, even if it was made last year. (those are thier own words).

I have been dealing a lot with the vendors over the last 5 years and while they are a nice bunch, it does not hurt to be specific about what you are wanting.

I probably have a reputation for being a little bit of a pain in their necks, but I figure that if I am going to pay them and have them send me a part, they would rather not have me send it back if it is not what I am looking for.

That goes with anything as there is a lot of research that goes into restoring a vehicle. I can't tell you how many mistakes I have made and that is why we started the data base and the fastener file/parts identification/etc. file to help others not waste their time and money like we did.
