Rubber bushings/grommets M38 Generator support brackets

Post by Trip »

Help,

Does anyone know of an easy way to insert the 2 rubber bushings into the generator supports? I tried lubricant and boiling but the 2 bushings are too stiff to squeeze into the holes. I thought someone might have some history inserting the bushings.

Thanks in advance.

You are going in the right direction. They are very tough to get in.

You'll find dozens of references to the exact same problem with the CJ2A, CJ3A, MB, GPW and other CJ generator mount rubbers. The answer if you google these sites are all the same, "Heat & or Grease". Try not to use a bolt that fills the rubber bushing's hole completely to help push them in. That center hole must compress a wee bit for them to fit on the way in so use a much smaller bolt and a larger area fender style washer to help push them in.
