WTB: T98 transmission

Post by jake138 »

Looking to see if anyone has a T98 4 speed floating around that they'd be willing to part with. I'm located in central Connecticut and I'd be willing to drive or pay for shipping.

Yes I've been considering a T98 for its creeper gear. It would be great for putzing through fh the woods, and they mate to an L head.

I believe you will also need the adapter plate and may need to make an adjustment on the transfer's relative position to the cross member.

There's a few guys around the internet that lay out the details of the swap. I hope my post didn't imply that I believe it's going to be a direct replacement for a T90: there are several significant modifications that this swap will require. A T98 from a CJ will at least bolt up to my transfer case, which saves me on one step.

Actually you did especially with the "mates up to the L134" comment. The 1" spacer/adapter is for mating it to the bellhousing. In the open body jeeps I only recall the T-98 as an option in the CJ3B & CJ5 so yes you are correct in assuming that a few changes will be needed. That 1" front spacer/adapter PN 910468 and the rear tranny to transfer adapter plate PN 911215 I believe are only found on the T98's built for the CJ3B & CJ5. So be careful which T-98's you consider buying. That rear insulator and mount ON 912721 are also different on the T98 so watch for that as well. The front to rear offset is different I believe.
