Engine Tag ??

Can anybody tell me what this is and why is on my M38 engine ??

I am looking for someone to decifer it for me before I pull the engine..

It is located on my photobucket..It is the site for 19?? M38 # 6477

Looks like a rebuild tag. Its in the same place as another M38 I once owned. Although it doesnt look quite the same (perhaps paint is covering up some of the nomenclature) as I recall mine did. The one I had listed the rebuilding arsenal; and the reworked sizes of the bore, main bering journals, and rod berings, and the date of the rebuild. One thing to note also; although the engine had a military rebuild; the serial on the front of the block had no R in front of the MCXXXX serial number.

Mine was also like yours millerman. Remanufactures tag but no R in motor number.

Thr "R" in the RMCXXXXX represents a factory new replacement engine from Willys. It has nothing to do with an engine rebuild in the field.

I pulled the head today and sure enough it has been re-built..by the way it looks it wasnt run long I took a rag an wiped the soot of the pistons and it has .40 pistons in it...no biggie..I am going to have a guy who rebuilds engines for a living take a loooksy at it and go from there,,thanks for the info guys..
