Heres a ramsey winch on ebay...price still looks prety reasonable. Looks almost like the 50R used on the M38A1s...what do you guys think? Or is it a touch short?
Guy wants local pickup, so I am not going to bid on it.
Looks like a big one to me a 200 series 8000 lb. one. just my guess Im not surprised they need a forklift to move it, the electrics are as big as the winch.
This whole can of worms on 50 vs 50R vs Y50R winches was just covered.
The Ramsey model 50 was the correct winch for both the M38 and the A1 from Willys. The military spares system stocked the 50R for field replacement. The model 50 was a 3500 Lb winch and the Model 50R was a 5000 Lb winch.
The Y50R was for the m116 tracked carrier and can be adapted to the m38A1 with a lot of effort but it is much narrower and is driven from the opposite side.
The larger 200 series civvy winches can also be adapted.
The above are all PTO powered winches.
The 8000 Lb. behemouth you spotted is an industrial 110 volt AC powered electric winch.
So what do you think this one is? It doesn't look as wide as my 200 series winch I salvaged from a Willys wagon. Nor does it look as narrow as some others I have seen listed recently.
Edited to add....never mind....I just read the rest of your post. I never knew Ramsey made industrial winches but I guess that makes sense .
