Machine Shop wanted Wisconsin.

Post by ih8pepl »

Looking for a reputable machine shop in southwestern Wisconsin - southeastern MN or northeastern IA to install some new valve seats in a L134. Let me know if you can point me in the right direction.

Mad-City Manufacturing Inc. does high quality work and is very knowledgable about Willys engines (and everything else Willys).

Hmm, I cant find too much info about them... but, ill give them a call and see if they can help me out. I dont have many options in Rural WI, and the few shops that are around only deal in fixing Ag equipment.

Its mind boggling how few machine shops even have web sites or at minimum facebook pages.

When I lived in Madison in the 70's they were few and far between. Over the last 40 years or so the few we had have grown into large contract machine work outfits. The old Mom & Pop shops are non-existant. I have found a couple of shops up here around Eau Claire that are quite old fashion and do nice work. Try shopping your auto parts stores several do their own automotive machine work now-a-days.

It's the same here. Old school machine shops don't seem much into interweb site and social media interaction or advertising.
No time for that non-sense. Telephone is about as hi-tech as they get.
The shop I used locally has all the business they can handle just by word of mouth (and that's how I found them).

It's spring and coming on summertime.
Any vintage, classic, or muscle car shows or clubs in your area?
Go to an old car show and ask --- bet you get some good leads.

Did you talk to the Ag-focused machine shops and ask? They might be able to give you some leads.....I think good machinists could be a small club.

Good luck!

Thats what im finding too... Just mass scale machine shops interested in runs of an item... the ag shops are just focused on tractor/implement machining - not vintage engine work. Whats left is just a yokel guy running a shop out of the corner of his dirt floored pole shed.

Im not far from Eau Clare is just an hour or so from me - If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Otherwise my project has hit a standstill.
