Wanted: M38 dash light assembly.

Post by kawzracn442 »

Looking for a complete M38 dash light assembly.
I have one and am missing the second.
Would anyone happen to have one laying around?
Thanks!

Just to be clear, you're looking for one dash blackout light that mounts in the instrument cluster panel, right? If that's what you need I'll look through my stash and see if I can help.

Wes,
Constructed as a pair --- at the factory?

For some reason (perhaps as a service part replacement?) the lights are also listed as single complete lights (quantity 2) on page 152, part number 7760412 (as I posted above, because the OP only needs one of the pair not both).

Unless? ----- Item K, described in the ORD9 on page 153 as SLEEVE, double female connector w/spring and connector assembly --- consists only of the little wiring block (SLEEVE) where the two light wires plug in (and doesn't include the pair of bases) ?
A double Douglas connector would easily replace it, same as shown in Figure 06-9 on page 119 of the M38A1 ORD9 G-758 (SEP 1956).

Could be mistaken, but looking at the MWM photo link of the NOS light seems to support that conclusion -----> https://shop.midwestmilitary.com/produc ... ter-light/

Perhaps the illustration in the M38 ORD9 is an early or prototype configuration?

Thank you Ron and Wes! I did not realize they were wired as a pair. (My wiring is a mess and I had not looked in the manuals yet) I also had checked everywhere I could think of for just one, But did not try MWM.

The M38 is paired with the harness "Y" to both base contacts (Bulb sockets). The rest of the lamp can be purchased as a one piece unit. Bottom line is look it up, and be sure what you need before asking for or buyin a replacement.

If someone cut one out then there will be a wire end in the harness "Y" that has been diced and will need an add-on wire or have the new GI standard light assembly's pig tail spliced to the "Y" harness lead.

Sorry for the delay, I finally had a chance to look through my parts and I do not have the lights you need.
