M38A1 leak

Post by mtnraptor »

Hi all, new to this forum. I just acquired a (I think) 54 m38a1 the delivery date is 2/54 serial number 71804. It is in fairly good shape it was painted over with yellow for a search and rescue team but they only painted the outside. I posted some pics in the photo gallery. I am new to the restoring scene and will have a lot of questions over the up coming months-years. Ok to the question I have been tracking down leaks because it sat for a while before I got it. I have a leak coming out of the left side of the engine were the fuel pump vacuum?? is attached I think this is what this is any suggestions. I will put a pic of the part in the photo gallery.

Try to be specific on ID'ng leaks by fluid type. That left front corner of the F-134 can leak engine oil from the fuel pump, from the oil filter hose connection behind the fuel pump, from the timing cover / oil pan and side valve cover. It can leak fuel from the fuel pump and the fuel line plumbing. It can leak coolant from the lower hose, the block and the water pump.

Lots of possibilities.

Look at my post on the new M170 thread for some hints to starting a resto.

Welcome to the group.

I think she looks really good! That's great that they didn't paint the interior. Usually they go wild and just fog the whole thing. Good luck tracking down the leak(s). I'm glad another A1 has found a good home. :D
