Actually it isn't an M38 engine but by, it looks like it.
For those that haven't yet got bored reading me the story goes like this;
The French after the war were broke but by the 50s had vast stocks of broken and goosed MBs and GPWs. They needed a modern jeep for the 1950s but didn't really have the money. So they simply built a 24volt MB and got rid of the known weak points, though why they kept that bloody awful from axle I don't know, well actually I do, it was to keep commonality with the MBs.
Now Pat Ware author of The M201 might not agree but I figure they simply updated the MB design by copying the M38 24 volt system, Pat I think suggests that the M201 system came from an earlier French project reffered to as the Delahey. See what you think.
The best part is; this was rebuilt, balanced and stored with NO EXPENSE SPARED by the French tax payer, I love you France.
