In the 60's while I was still in the USAF I recall installing generic heater kits in most of our rough and tumble vehicles. These were self contained in a single compact (about 10x10x10") unit we bolted anywhere convenient (like to the floor in between the seats) and ran two hoses through the firewall (M38 and M38A1 both have removable panels for this and can have the panels re-installed later) and a power lead. Very easy not to see where these were used.
