Pulled the cable out from the top end, so no seizure. The cable was black with oil/grease, so this failure was most likely just a fatigue failure.
You mean I can just unscrew SS from the case and pull out TT just like that?
It must have been just before my eyes, but I never noticed!

Tried the magnet first, and after trying 20+ times, I managed to get the pin far enough out so I could pull it out with tweezers.
I tried to unscrew TT, but it was hard to get to, and when I got there in the end I put a lot of pressure on it, but it refused to move. Who knows how long it has been since it was last removed? 1943?
So now waiting for the new cable. Ordered a complete kit, but will decide later if I'm going to replace the complete cable or just the core.
The smart thing would be to do the complete cable, but I'm lazy enough to try to avoid doing just that.
Replaced the battery today, didn't do much with the cranking speed, but at least the battery doesn't go flat after 15 secs of stepping on the starter.
