Hello Brian: do you know where one can get a copy of that magazine still or a digital copy? I would like to see it too.BCA wrote:Hi Guy,
The most comprehensive list of numbers was published by Rob Grieve, in CMP Magazine Issue 13, May 1996. He gave full credit to his sources: either his own inspection, to Colin Stevens in BC, to the MVPA Directories or to historical photos. Nearly all M38CDN data bases quote heavily from Rob's work.
... Brian
Also, regarding the contract numbers, the last one I have with 639 is F-100240 and the earliest one with contract 742 is F-100462.
reddog: my M38 is F 100299 and there was no CAR...I also think you have the "Jeep" Script on the front of the toolbox. IF you happen to lightly take off the paint and do find a CAR, I would be very interested in also knowing what it was.
cheers
Myles.

Thank's Guy, Merci, I'll surch in many farms and some fishing and hunting camps, maybe exist somewhere i wish.M38CDNBill wrote:Hi Jean,
I watched in my list and I don't have this CAR number 52-30428. Many M38CDN don't survived any longer after their career in Canadian Forces and maybe this jeep no longer exist since a long time ago.
You can try to find this number on the Maple Leaf Up website which is specially dedicated to the Canadian military vehicles and their history: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/index.php
Cheers
Thank's for your help.

Thank's Piklepickle wrote:hello,
I may check with Brian Asbury if you can. he may be able to shed some light on it too.
I am curious, Guy, do you know the contract numbers for those two jeeps you listed? Also, do you have anything listed for CARs above/below F-10229?
thanks

btw, for Black Eagle....there is a individual from Ontario by the name of Rob who was editor of the Ontario Military Vehicle Association. May someone can help point you to his contact as his was on my old computer that crashed. Anyway he told me to look at the back of the data plate for grease pen markers that were done by inspectors...it might have the serial with the CAR/CFR on it. Also, he also maintained that if the unit passed inspection without any issue, there was the possibility that there was a specific number sequence between the serials and CAR/CFR. He may be able to get that to you depending on his database and CAR?CFR list. another good source.

No, I don't have the contract numbers for those two jeeps. Here is the list of SN, CAR and DOD that I have compiled over the years and any additional digits are welcome.

Black Eagle: I have put together Guy's and mine together that I will gladly share with you and send to this website. If Wes and Ryan post it, I encourage everyone to look at it and make changes that are needed. If you have a list, I could add to this list if you want. I like working with spreadsheets, so it would be no problem at all.I have data list too I'll compare with your's, I complete and sent to you adds.
Guy: I am curious as to how you have on your list you know that the serial would be F-101xxx or F-102xx with the known CARS. Maybe if can describe it, it would help me understand the reasoning.
Guys list really helps paint a better picture and fill in gaps. there is now approximately 250 on it. Thank you Guy.
There are, however, a couple of serials that have the same CARs, and I also found one serial with 3 different CARs. I think that this unit had a particular restamp on it, so I do not know which was the correct one.
A word of caution here...the lists are incomplete, or might have errors, I tried to put a hyper link to where the unit is on the internet for clarification. I ask if you see something let me know to add, delete, or change.
Also, if anyone wants it for review, let me know your e-mail and I would gladly send it.
cheers,
Mk

Myles and Guy: PM me with your mailing addresses and I will send a hard copy of the original CMP Magazine article (I was editor at the time!) listing serial numbers documented by Rob G.: he quotes his source in every case: whether a personal obrsevation, a historical photograph or a sighting by other enthusiasts like Colin Stevens.
Then you each can update your lists. Many of the CFR's on the list are from body stencils in historical photos: good to note this type of source since the the vehicle may not even exist any more.
