Lost a brake shoe brass cam at some point. I bagged and tagged everything but it walked.... so I ordered another one and am waiting on it so I can finish the dana44.
Nasty weather on the east coast yesterday-for me it was a deluge of rain- so that kept me inside. Painted the kitchen finally after I did a remodel last year but never decided on paint. Done now. Of course it’s grey.... I swear orange is my favorite color but everything I drive is grey or red.
Today will be a nice day at 40* which is fine for the tub repairs. Just need to find my boots because the mud is bad around the Jeep.
Progress keeps moving. You can eat an elephant- one bite at a time.

If I was a better welder I wouldn’t have spent half my day on fixing my screw up.
Originally I installed this with the seam on the inboard side( overlap in the red area instead of in the wheel well).

Spent time filling holes around the drive side. Spent too much time messing with getting stuck hardware out. It’s rusted and seized. Next time just grind or cut off wheel.

My days are too short and it’s chilly out.
Up next, fill the passenger side extra holes.
Maybe get the floorboards finished.
Not perfect but will be functional

Replaced the liner in my mig welder. This is the old one. Looks damaged (it is 5 years old...

Seems to be having a good time..

Fred Flintstone’s m38.....

Glove box floor... the screws were destroyed.

The cowl battery box was filthy. Took a wire wheel on a grinder to it.

Going to rain a lot tomorrow. My dana44 rear brake pieces showed up today from KW.
So I will work on that tomorrow.
Still no driver seat or the rear seat mounting brackets. It’s been over a month since order was placed and paid. Frustrating

Dana 44 axle setting. Had to put a lot of shims on the driver side- but it was like that befor too. Like .090 on passenger side was around .035

All the brake parts here, shims, gaskets... was missing two 3/8-24 nuts for the brake adjusters. I had some in my stash actually.
Got a .003 on both driver and passenger side. (It’s not backlash- my brain is not functioning at the moment- it’s the in/out movement)

Spent a little time buttoning up the Dana 44. I need a differential breather but otherwise is 98% done. I plugged it for now so water can’t get in.

Rolled it out back and put it under the Jeep again.
Those bolts gave me heck on the driver side.
Passenger side went in licking split, but the driver side was three times as long. It dropped so fast in temperature and daylight. I started at 1400, it was 1630 by the 5ime I finished and cleaned up.
The ground is soaking wet and of course I was lying on a piece of plywood to keep from getting soaked through.

We have a roller.

I added the barrel latch (nifty idea I saw on here -on someone’s build)

I thought I was going to be able to crib this tub up a bit to get it set flipped, but thought by myself this is too dangerous.

So I put some 4x4s under the tub and on the frame.
This gives me a little room to seam seal from below.

Now there are two rules of thought on Bedliner in tuba. I am in the boat of under the tub as a undercoat. I used Monstaliner on my 63 f100 and really liked it. I am goi to seam seal the underside of this tub, then scuff and Monstaliner the underside.
I need to figure out what to do about the driver side rear splash pan. This doesn’t have a good way to get the holes . I guess I can set it in, spray paint around it and find the holes that way.
I’m waiting on rear seat pieces. I contacted KW. There was a oversight in my order and they are shipping the missing items.

Too funny Coastie! That barrel latch on the passenger seat is an Army-issued Modification Work Order.......better watch out, you might be building a real M38! Looking good!
No comment about your main supplier. I quit using them a long time ago, mostly, but not all, because I discovered their prices are astronomical.
Btw, I enjoy your youtube video progress as well....but like fakebook I don't subscribe, so I thought I'd tell you here instead.
Good luck!

Ron, I have shopped around and bought from eBay, classic enterprise, quarter ton military vintage Jeep parts etc.
A lot of it comes down to shipping, discounts and available item.
Today i worked on the frame. I forgot I hadn’t taken care of those seized front fender bracket bolts broken off in the frame.
I got one grill mount bolt out successfully and moved on to the passenger cowl bolt and fender bolts.
Well, the first drill bit did fine. Second one, exploded as soon as I put it at the drilled hole.
Wear your face shield. I did thankfully. This piece flew up at my face like shrapnel.

Instead of fighting, I cut, grind, weld.
In all I made 5 patches for bolts that were seized.
I will locate the mount hole once things are lined up and drill the holes.

Tomorrow may rain a lot. Have other projects to do inside if it does.

Forgot to post this photo. Got poking around the firewall since I haven’t touched it yet. Cancer just brittle metal right where the battery box is.
I did not want to take the cowl battery box out.
Let’s see what sort of damage I can do without taking it out....

The battery fumes just eat the sheet up in the battery boxes and firewall area.
Then, there's Bubba. The big hole and surrounding holes were for a chrome paper air cleaner mounted inside where the cowl battery box used to be......
This is what I started with:

Repaired:

Like you said, not perfect, but it will work.

Dropped the bar in my evaporust solution

Weatherman said it was gonna rain all day so 8 sudds the trans up ready, but it never came. (Till 5 pm).

So, I can’t sit still, I started disassembly and ended my night when the deluge of rain did start at 5pm.
Not much oil leaked out cause it already marked territory long before I owned it.

It is so gunned up, it was like chipping concrete.
I went down to food lion, but no oven cleaner was to be had. Guess everyone is expecting to destroy their ovens tonight and tomorrow for Christmas,
I bought a red Barron pizza for Christmas dinner. I have plans for tomorrow but not tomorrow night.
Merry Christmas all.
