Brian,
The engine didn't even have an air cleaner on it when I bought it.
It was straight up carb to open air.

I was looking in the tech pubs about vent lines and whatnot. I don't remember the jeep having any on it when i took it apart. don't see any on photos either.
This was converted to 12v. I am leaving it 12v.

Was just out in the garage throwing another round of spray paint on the bell housing- We ended up getting about 3" of snow overnight. Don't foresee me getting much done today. I am actually running out of inside projects to do now- I wish I could have gotten that jeep inside the garage but with the void under my garage situation, until that is filled, the jeep stays outside.

Today may be pretty boring.

What the engine was when I got Salty. I see I had some sort of cover over the carb. it wasn't even tight- just resting on there.

It is. I went and grabbed the carb out of the storage box.

today I putzed around the garage a bit. It is cold so not working outside. Dont feel like painting the cabinets and trim along the baseboards so I put the Bell Housing on the trans. What a bear! I had to tap it on with a deadblow to get it to seat.

I had purchased a new throwout bearing (timken) and it came in a few days back. But I finally got around to cleaning the bearing carrier and the clutch fork.
I do not like what I see.

It is worn pretty good and the clutch fork is bent.

I had been looking for my new clutch /brake pedal shaft and can't find it. Did I order one? I have one more parts box to look in to see if I did or not. I know I have a new Z-bar.

Look at the old one and how worn it is.

Located all the scrap metal from the past few weeks worth of work on Salty.
The intake and exhaust have some cracks, and busted ears.

Am home this week taking a "C-School" which for this particular one is a Assistant Safety Officer. Have to go over inspecting and program implementation of safety onboard our unit. I've been doing this stuff for 20+ years, but apparently I need to be formally trained.... which I am doing online at my house instead of in a classroom.. ADHD- I am terrible at online school for sure! I get side tracked and have to go do something else.

Not much jeep progress actually.

Went to the box store to get more 4 foot LED lights for the garage. I installed one of the two and it didnt work. I know how to do all that and checked, rechecked, unwired it and put the second one in its place. worked fine.
Return trip to the store and exchanged it. But sidetracked into the tools of course.

I have outgrown my tool boxes (3 - 26" combo's) and needed more space for the bigger tools I have like the impact sets, air tools, various large ratchet sets and just all that stuff you accumulate with rebuilding vehicles.

Home depot had a Husky 26" set (in blue) for 400.
Lowes had a Craftsman 26" 2000 series in red for 478. But I got it for 405 cause it had a small dent in it. (3rd from left- the middle of the red ones)

I will take the next two evenings and organize this all.

I see i am missing sockets! but have tons of sizes some people can never find.
Maybe cause I probably stole them from you. lol

I actually (not that you all will like this- but I do)

I painted the drain plugs and fill plugs of my Transmission and Transfer case RED.

No one gonna care but me.

Waiting for more parts to show up from Midwest and RFJP. I am working my way into having a catalog of items waiting for assembly when I return from this next deployment.

Only reading I seem to enjoy is this= weird.

My dudes at work all think I have a secret stash of tech manuals in my living room (for our shipboard equipment).... well, technically they aren't wrong. I do read tech manuals a lot at work, and retain info from them. I just dont have a secret stash of them.

Today- will install those plugs. Move my F100 over so I can install the other LED overhead light and continue on the tool organization.

The January 1956 TM9-8012, paragraph 67.d.(2) on page 50 says "A 3/4-inch red circle should be painted around all lubricating fittings, oil can points, and refill plug holes."

No home improvement project is ever done until you’ve made at least two trips to Home Depot. (Orlowes or menards or whatever).
The new Led light worked but my 2 yo one failed.
Replaced and lighting is fit for this 40+ year old.

I also am doing the plug in the glove box mod the Marines did. It’s practice.

Paint is drying on that one, so a future installation .

You get more done in a day than I do in a month..... and I am retired.

I wonder how many serious M38 projects are happening out there and where those folks are on the resto path. For that matter, I wonder how many M38s are on the road. I saw one parked at a MVPA show two years ago but have yet to see one driving around Ocala, Fl

Funny you say that. Some things I find fun, challenging I do quickly, and a lot.

Do a big job in 12 hour straight shifts- cool.

Watching 60minures takes me three hours cause it’s boring as f...
I’ve been taking an online safety officer course all week. Most finished Wednesday morning. I’m just floating thru till tomorrow when I finish. I refuse to sit at the desk for more that 30 minutes at a time!
Working from home would be terribly unproductive for me.

I never wanted or intended to have a desk job.

I have a desk job in IT - and I'm not an IT person. I do program management.

I never wanted to be stuck in doors all day.

I'm in doors all day working from home at a desk job in IT......

I used to be a commercial diver, do S&R in the mountains, and do stunt work in movies.

Now I spend alllllllll day on the computer.....

Oh well. It's where the good paying jobs are. In a way it supports my ADD/ADHD because I jump around on my computers, check the news, look up jeep or mid-18th c. stuff, or break off on a conference call and paint my garage door or split firewood.... And I can travel to family or other locations and still work without using my hoarded PTO.

April, you're still getting a $&% of a lot done! And, yes, 60 Minutes is a waste of time.... You have to go to multiple news and information sources these days and interpolate to get some semblance of facts and truth.

So I saw this on the forum a while back. Decided to do the same.

Take a plug cap, screw it into the glove box knob (inside) and then screw your bellhousing plug into that for safe keeping.

Not in the knob. Drill a hole about center of the door.
