M38A1 front springs - TROUBLE!

Post by wilfreeman »

Hi Guys!

I pulled my front springs off my M38A1 this weekend and found a mess! I knew my passenger's side top leaf was broken, so I went ahead and ordered new ones (both sides for good measure). When I pulled the passenger's side spring pack apart, the bottom 2 leaves fell apart (one in 2 pieces and the other in 3!). So then I cleaned up the good leaves with the wire wheel on the grinder and coated them with rust fix (to kill the rust in the pitted areas). I pulled the driver's side spring pack apart and the same thing - the bottom 2 leaves were broken! Then the 4th leaf was broken, the 5th leaf aws cracked at one end, and the 11th (long) leaf was broken! I'm guessing that this Jeep has lived a HARD life!

Can anyone tell me where I can buy separate leaves? I bought the top leaves from D&L Bensinger's, but was unable to get back in touch with them before I went back to work today. Any help will be appreciated! I'm ready to get busy on reassembly, instead of fixing!

Thanks - Matt

D & L should have them for you.

You could also buy new spring assemblies.

You should probably check the arch on your springs and have them rearched if needed.

Good luck :D
