Spring shackle types for my m38: U-bolt or Closed End?

Post by arisLgr »

Hi all!
With a loud CLANKING sound coming from the rear suspension and after checking that my shocks are OK, I am pretty sure that the bushings on my spring shackles are busted.
I have the 'closed end' or 'heavy duty' shackles, but checking on line I found that U-bolt type shackles are also available.
Which type is original for my M38?
Also what are the pros and the cons between the two types?
Thanks ahead guys!

The M38 only left Willys with the U type.

The closed type was introduced much later in the M38A1 line.

The closed type are obviously stronger and would be a good Idea for a M38 operated in the rough country a lot.
