Photo host Flickr will be limiting their free accounts

Post by jake138 »

Evening all,

Just wanted to give a heads-up to anyone who uses the website Flickr to host their pictures. I received an email from them today that their free accounts will now be limited to only 50 private pictures, which means you will either have to upgrade to a Pro account for $8/month, you have to make all your pictures public to all users on Flickr, or they will delete any photos you have more than 50. Unfortunately all of the pictures I have of my restoration so far are hosted through them, so I will be looking for a new photo host for the time being.

The email did not give a set deadline as to when the switch will occur, but I'm assuming that they are waiting to see how many people panic and just pay the subscription in order to avoid having their pictures deleted. If you currently use Flickr, I would recommend making sure you at least have backups of your photos, regardless of how you share them.

If you currently have all your photos uploaded directly to this website, your photos are completely safe and this announcement does not apply to you at all.

Thanks for reading!
~Jake
