m170 serial #, ASAP

I just found an m170 for sale, no plates. I am wondering what # series they used to check to see if the engine is original to use its number if I buy it to save from a salvage title. Does the engine use MD##### or is it something different.

The engine will still be MDxxxxx or RMDxxxxx for the M38A1, M38A1C, M38A1D and M170.
