Rebuilt 637s carburetor, A mess

Post by cinnabarsam »

Hi everyone, My friend Dan paid over $200 for a rebuilt 637s carb from a local MV dealer for his M38. He hadn't ever had the
motor running and it wouldn't even fire. I loaned him a WO carb and
air horn and it ran fine. Yesterday I took apart the 637 and here's what
I found. The needle valve and seat had been wrapped in some kind of
sticky tape at one time and was glued together so couldn't move. I pulled
out the needle valve with a pair of needle nose and it took a couple of
pounds to move it. A little carb cleaner took off the glue and it freed up.
The float adjustment was so high the float touched the roof of the carb.
The idle mixture screw is too short and runs out of threads before hitting
bottom. The top screws are missing some lock washers and the screws were loose on the throttle body. The brass piece the throttle wire runs
through has a notch worn plumb through it and needs replaced. All this from a professional rebuild. When asked the dealer said too bad, it's yours now. I guess if you want it done right, do it yourself. Sam

there is always two sides to every story.I find that most dealers are on the up and up, with out naming the dealer why don't you post their home town as yours is not known. let buyer beware.
