M38A1 rear axle bearings

Upon doing my brakes this weekend I find I need new rear axle bearings and cones. Are these readily available at say NAPA?... In the Parts List it gives a Military # and no WO #. I'm wondering if these are the same as a CJ5???

Yes they are the same Timken numbers.

Front:
Cone 18590 2 at each wheel
cup 18520 2 at each wheel

Rear:
Cone 25877 1 at each wheel
Cup 25821 1 at each wheel

Seal National 13710 1 at each wheel

I have an M38, and I found this thread about the M38A1... I believe they both have Dana 44 rear ends, but I just was looking for confirmation that they are the same for the M38 bearing references.

Hi Pickle,
Using the "downloads" button above, it took me about 5 minutes to look at the M38 and M38A1 parts manuals (ORD9) and find that they both list identical part numbers for the bearing cups and cones.

The manuals are free to look at and download to keep a copy.

If you'd rather not take my word for it, the M38 bearings are listed on page 254 and the M38A1 bearings are on pages 250-251 in their respective ORD9 manuals.

This outstanding publication by Dennis Spence has been around since 1987. It can still be purchased from Portrayal Press.No excuse to not be able to find out the commercial part numbers for standard hardware items and kits in less than 3 minutes at your own work table.

I went through searches on bearing cross reference and went down a rabbit hole trying to hard to find other bearing references.

Ron, I drew a lightbulb moment afterwards on the manual download for the M38al.

Wes, as always, you have great responses. I missed that other post in my searches. thank you for that and the manual references...I will definitely look up that one at portal press.

Gentlemen, I can't stress enough how important this website is. there is so much wealth of information here for the novices like me. it really helps to bring confidence on part searches, before going to the automotive parts store and getting the glossed over look from someone half your age telling you the parts are non existent.

As for the web site's value it has become a slow mover as many members move to facebook which is often easier for them to connect to and the large volume of folks over there. Whenever they get stymied on a topic though they come right back here to find the solution. This web site has become more of a data storage facility.
