M38A1 Rear diff setup specs needed

Post by RadioJeepMan »

Hello all

I am in need of the clearence/tolerance specs for the reassembly of an M38A1 rear end. I need to know what is says about how to set the pinion bearings loading and same for the firrerential carrier assy. I found the info for my MB/GPW but I am not sure about the M Series.

Also if someone has a manual available for the overhaul for the diffs/trans/Xfer I would ike to get one. I think it is probably a "Body, frame & power train manual. That is the only manual, out of the hundreds I have, that I dont have.

Thanks

Paul,
The TM 9-1804B Power Train Body & Frame for the M38 and TM 9-8015-2 Power Train Body & Frame for the M38A1 are the manuals you need. They devote about 50 pages to the axle rebuilds. They can be had in paper from Portrayal Press http://www.portrayal.com/
or you can get the 3 basic manuals and parts manual for the MB, M38, M38A1 and M151 on one CD for $20 from Military media http://www.military-media.com/Merchant2 ... Code=MVMOC

The civilian manual covers it pretty well under the CJ3A or CJ5.

Thanks for the reply. I did see the powertrain manual from Portrayal at $28.00 The CD Rom has quite a bit of info fo $20. Either way I guess I'll have to order something, but now it's gonna hold up putting this reard end back together for another week, Oh well.

Thanks
Paul

Either of the later CJ manuals give you the same data. SM 1002 or SM 1046.

Wes

I got the info, I had bought the CD ROM a long time ago and forgot about it. Took a look and there it was with all the info I need. Now if the lousy bearing company will get my bearings in.

Thanks
Paul
