I want to add a 12v cigarette socket to my m38.Is there any reason why I can't hook the pos. wire from the socket to the neg terminal in the cowl batt(batt. B),and the neg terminal of the socket to body gnd. at the dash? I plan to use it to power a GPS or CB radio.

Chuck,
I would run a 12 Ga wire from the cowl battery negative post to a modern add-on fuse box and fasten the box to the inboard side of the battery box near the circuit breaker mounting strip. Then clearly mark both ends of that wire as 12V and install about a 20 amp fuse at the battery end of that wire.
Now you can add 12 volt accessories as you find the need for them and fuse each separately at your new 12 volt fuse box.
