M38 floor pan & tool box lid questions

Post by 12B »

Hello. I'm new to the website. Just purchased a 1952 Willys M38. Serial number 63618. Hood number 20910614. Delivered 4/52.

Was wondering where the best and most economical place is to purchase a complete floor pan. Also, can't open the tool box under the passenger seat. . . what's the "catch?" Seriously, it should just twist, right?

There is not anyone making repop full floor pans for the front. John at Midwest Military has what I think are the Best left and right front floors on the market. He also produces a complete set of hat channels. Once in every couple of years a left over NOS full front floor pane surfaces for sale. The complete full pan runs from the bottom edge of the rear floor riser to the top of the cowl.

The rear "D: ring is turned to open the cover.

The rounded 90 deg pin rides up either cam and snaps into the slot of the striker.

You can see John's front floor panels, water drains and hat channels here:

Yeah, I think now he is selling stuff that he makes (or is made in the US at least - not MDJuan). I bought a front floor (from the top of the angled part of the floor to under the riser) for my 'A1 about 11 years ago from him - was MDJuan, and not a good repro! Still catching it trying to fit parts  ! Buy US made repro parts if at all possible (alot of the main suppliers in MV Magazine and Supply Line are making their own parts now, and adding new ones all the time) Try not to skimp - it will pay you back in the end.

I did find this:

"New Complete One-Piece Construction Front Floor Pan with All Proper Welded Bracing and Toe Board Supports.

Proper wood bracing included where original. Covers entire front floor board from firewall to rear riser. Painted in primer.

Fits:
50-52 M38"

at the KaiserWillys.com website (there is a photo there).

The problem going with the individual pans may be nobody seems to have the "hump" between the two for sale, and I am thinking mine does not have enough good metal to weld the two separate pans to.

Anyone know if the middle piece is available?

Thanks,

Bob

I believe that full panel is also MD Juan (made in the Phillippines). The full panels I am referring to are factory original spares that pop up from time to time.

No the hump is not offered US made by anyone yet. In 99 % of the rusty tubs that still support seats there is enough of the hump to repair. I have seen folks with really rough tubs part out the hump section.

Using the two large bolt in tranny covers you will find it not so tough to align the individual front floors.

Why don't you post a few photos of what you have to work with and I am sure there are enough of us here to offer you advice and insight on directions to take.

Wes K,

I haven't figured out how to insert photos yet, so I dropped you a quick email with the photos I took. . . hope that's okay.

Thanks for your help,

Bob
