t/c intermediate shaft

Post by wtb853 »

Did the M38 use a 3/4" or 1-1/8" intermediate shaft in the tc? My transfer case is not original and am just curious.

They would have used the 1 1/8 shaft, the 3/4 was a ww-2 thing but would have been carried over for awhile, Not sure as to when it would have changed over.

Is there a sizeable difference in strength / service life between the two? The reason I ask is that I have a t/c with the 3/4" shaft torn apart on the bench and am wondering whether to rebuild that one or get the "correct" one back into the jeep.

Yes there is a nother size, I think its a 1 inch or 1 1/4 cant remember right at this sec.
Any of the transfer cases are good in they are well maintained, however if your restoring it the orignial will be better and stronger with the larger shaft.
