M38 non-folding windshield question

Post by warsawillys »

The driver side of the windshield of my 1951 M38 has a fixed bracket instead of a hinge but here is a hinge on the passenger side. So the windshield cannot fold down. It is not a vertical windshield such as on an arctic top M38. It doesn't look like a hack job repair. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Don

Could be anything, a service mod or post service Bubba mod. Not a Willys thing though. Whomever and for whatever reason it was not a smart move. Since one side was still free to hinge it could easily have resulted in a broken glass. For this reason I lean towards a Bubba mod.

It is weird to have one side fixed and the other free to move so Wes is probably right. But whoever the Bubba was, he did a neat job of cutting off the pivot on the end of the windshield frame and welding on a rectangular bracket.

Thanks for the insight. This web site and forum are awesome!

windshield

probably a good thing you can't lay it over ....the GPW that I had when I was a kid would break the windshield almost every time you hit a bump when you had the windshield laid over evan with the latches on

Another possibility is Bubba got the windshield cheap because someone already cut off the left arm. So your Bubba had what you see as his solution to employ a cheap incomplete windshield.
