trouble opening download topics???

Post by keats »

I noticed when I was poking around the download section that many of the listed items don't open up when clicked, for instance the deep water fording section. Is this due to them not being available yet or some setting on my computer, or other??
Thanks, Gary

Gary,

Which specific file is it that you are inquiring about?

There are many sections that I have not added downloads to as of yet because I have not had the time. Many articles I have are not written yet and I need to get them organized with thier photos and a written explanation.

Most of the data we have is raw data that we need to get into articles so that people will understand them better.

We are working on those as we get the time.

Let me know what specific download you are talking about and I will check it. 8)

Hello Ryan, I understand the time it takes to do this site and appreciate the effort.

M38 Fording Kit Instillation instructions

This is one of the downloads taht doesn't open for me. It states

Description: M38 Fording Kit installation instructions from Military Magazine 2001.
Added on: 12-Jan-2006 Downloads: 19

so I thought it was working. It opens as a white page with a small square in upper left corner. A click on this square tells me information is not available

Hey,

I tried out the download and it works OK. It may be a setting on your computer.

It could be your firewall or your internet program settings.

I don't know much after that, but let me know if you are still having trouble and I may be able to email it to you depending on the file size.

:)

disabled firewall, and antivirus but didn't make a difference. Some downloads open and others don't. Don't want to make a big deal out of this as I was just browsing through, but I wonder if others are having difficuty also.

Do you have Adobe loaded, the file is Adobe and will not open without it.

I opened it last night...

ALso Ryan, the scans of that article for me are unreadable, took it to max resolution on the computer and still not go...

Possible to rescan???

Hal is right, I forgot to ask if you have adobe acrobat reader. The reader is a free download from thier website, which is an easy google search.
If you have adobe and cannot download it, I can email it to you.

Hal,

The pages for that file I got from Wes. It is a scan he did, but is of very poor resolution. He is going to get some better scans so that we can put it onto the website. Same goes for some of the other files and maintinance manuals we have on the web.

The scanning process is very slow for good resolution scans and so it takes a long time. Right now I have multiple irons in the fire to get into readable articles to put onto the download section.

It is all a work in progress and will slowly improve (unless I win the lottery and can quit work! ).

I appreciate you guys telling me about needed improvements as we want this site to be as helpful as possible.

Thanks! 8)

I had adobe 6.0 installed and checked their website for an update. Sure enough there was version 6.0.1. After installing the update all works fine!!!! Thanks Ryan.

Hello Hal, for us old timers who hate change and are still using Windows 98 SE, 6.0.1 is the latest and probably last version of adobe offered. No matter though, as the downloads all work now as they should.

Great!

Yeah, I have not updated my adobe 6.0 program because of cost and I figure most people will be able to read the 6.0 vs. the 7.0.
