Rebuild for dummies

Howdy,
Does anybody have or knows where I can get a step by step engine rebuild kit for the L134? The military manuals are one thing and a Clymer type manual another. I need one that is like someone standing over me and telling me....Ok now that you have the hood up you need to do this and then do that etc. I'm not totally inept but mechanically probably pretty close to it. Ive rebuilt top ends on some Harley M/C's but had a guy standing behind me telling me... now that you've drined the fuel out of the tank you need to do this and then that etc !!!
I'm hoping one of you mechanical gurus have already done this and can tell me where to purchase such a manual or maybe willint to take on the cjob and produce one.

The military manuals are the best, once you know what you’re doing, but their illustrations can be plain wrong, or at least unclear. Don’t forget the G503 manuals which are valid for the most part.

Next best is the Willys Service Manual for the CJ-3A through the Dispatcher which is available as a reprint from online retailers. The illustrations are a bit muddy compared to an original (I got mine from Berg’s a long time ago) but still useable.

You can download three good step-by-step manuals: Rebuilding the L134 on the CJ-3A site, Rebuilding the Jeep Engine Parts 1-4 from the G503 site, & Rebuilding the Venerable Willys L-Head by Douglas Peebles (http://www.flatfenderfever.com/id8.html).

I recommend reading the last 3 first, then TM 9-1804A, available on this site.

For a manual with step by step photos the, only one out there is Moses Ludel's jeep series. Starting with his "Jeep Owner's Bible" for jeeps through his "Jeep CJ 46-71 Rebuilder's Manual". The manuals listed above are great references but for a truly ignorant first time builder they still require a certain degree of existing mechanical proficiency and will still cause you to read hard and cross reference often. If you really are that reliant on having a large boot close behind you then you should bribe or otherwise seduce a neighbor or fellow MV club member who is good at it to be there behind you. The listed web sites are also helpful with their guides but they still often assume a lot about your skills and reading level.
