Best paint?

I see that there are two major suppliers of paint for MV's - Gillespie and Aervoe.

I do not have access to an air compressor, so I will have to buy spray cans.

The color I need is Lusterless USMC Forest Green.

How do the two paints compare? Fading, wear, etc.

Where are you located? I know we can find you a compressor to use here in Wisconsin.

I've used both for touchup work. They're ok

for a full paint job she'll look like you know what!

When you say the only suppliers of MV paint I'm sure you meant in spray bombs. Any of your local paint shops can custom mix exactly what you want. Especially if you can bring them a painted sample piece. You can choose locally a one part enamel system or a fancy two part epoxy system. It's all up to you. You can pick up an adequate portable compressor at Menards for less than $200. An adequate spray gun there will run you $29 there as well. Compared to $7 a can for spray bombs plus shipping and hazardous fees it's not going to cost much different.

Unfortunately, I do not have a clean paint sample from my Jeep for the local paint shop - will spray cans look that bad? I have never had a chance to compare spray cans vs spray gun. In all honesty I've never really thought about paint on MV's before now.

I'm down by Lake Geneva. When I moved to WI a few years ago all I received in my gift basket was a blue tarp (to be hung outside), some cheese, and some bratwurst. No compressor!

Although I also have a home in Green Bay, but all I got there was a Packer hat.

If you want to get a good feeling for the quality of an overall spray bomb paint job go to Iola this summer to both the Old Car rally (July) and the MV rally (August). Ask each owner you come across how he painted his vehicle.

All joking aside it's impossible to hide the start stop lines. She'll look like a patchwork quilt. You'd be better off to get a gallon of the cheapest OD you can find and brush it on.

On the tarp issue,they now come in green and brown,green on one side,brown on the other. Kind of a camo cover for the jeep. green in summer ,brown for spring and fall, and in the winter the snow is so deep you can't see anything anyway. No beer in your welcome basket?

Shaker can vs airbrush aside, which of the two will match the USMC color the closest?

The Jeep has been completely repainted by previous owners, so all USMC paint is dirty, covered with overspray, or gone.

Anyone use either paint manufacturer? How did you like the color?

I went ahead and ordered on can of Gillespie and one can of Aervoe.

Aervoe was a very dark green - very close to the Krylon Olive Drab I use on my firearms.

Gillespie seemed to be almost spot on for color match with the old paint. It was a bit darker, but the paint I was matching it to was 54 years old and had faded with time.

Both shaker cans worked fine, the Gillespie can came with a fan shaped spray nozzel. The Aervoe came with the standard spray nozzel. I was not impressed with the fan spray, so I switched the nozzel.
