high oil consumption

Post by Nuffe »

I have a M38 with L-motor.
Pressure, idle and power ok.
But there is oil consumption and oil
in exhaust gases.
No oil leak.
is it worn valve guides?
Intake or exhust guides?
or whatever....
please....

First do a compression check. If compressions are low squirt an ounce or 2 of engine oil in each cylinder and do the compression test again. A noticeable increase in compressions indicates worn rings.

Checking guides is a visual inspection that requires the removal of the manifolds so you can see the tapered side of the valves and look for sticky oil residue.
