Adding "primer" handle to fuel pump

Post by shawnhoag »

I am sending my fuel pump to Then and Now Automotive to have it rebuilt. I have a NOS primer handle. Anyone know if it can just be added to the pump I have, which is the correct military pump without the primer though. Thanks for any info. Shawn

Shawn,

I believe you will need several parts in addition to the handle including the correct center carb body.

M38 pump without handle. No hole for handle either.

Pump with priming handle. Handle requires the second hole. Vent fitting adapter is used to retain the handle retainer.

The guys @ Then And Now are easy to talk to. I think it's
Mike Casselas who'll be doing the actual build. Give them
a call they'll set you straight.

The primer handle I have is 2 1/2" long from the front to rear of the shaft. The retainer piece is broken(oh yeah,I have the double holed body pump). It seems that the shaft is not long enough,or am i missing something?

If you want Then & Now to rebuild your pump using your NOS manual priming handle and extra two hole center body you need to get on the phone with them and discus it thoroughly. You want to be darn sure they will do what you ask. There have been several postings here in the past where one style pump was sent in and another style returned to them even when they insisted on either an early pump without the handle or a late pump with the handle.
